Analysing Selena Gomez's 'Slow Down'

An opening shot is very important, it sets the scene and immediately tells the audience what they're in for. In Slow Down, their opening shot was an establishing shot of Paris, we associate this scene with glamor and excitement, this foreshadows the rest of the video.
The car is speeding down the street, it is classic and classy black and adds a sense of mystery to the video in the beginning, in fact, Enigma code is used in the first few seconds because the audience isn't sure what's happening or where the artist is.
When you finally get to see the artist, her first line it ironically "Now that I have captured your attention" and you realize that, that is what has been happening over the past few seconds you have been watching.
This can all be used in our video, starting off without showing the audience anything too revealing yet setting the scene can add to the 'creepiness' and confusion that we want to create.
Capturing our audiences attention from the very beginning is also something that we need to do, to make them want to keep on watching to find out what's going to happen.

There is a total of just 5 shots from when we start watching to when we see the artist, this continues throughout the video and in the end each shot is the artist only, this shows her importance, the fact that we need to keep our attention on her and tells the audience immediately that she is the artist.

We will use this in our video, as it is a common convention that is used throughout different music videos and one that is evidently successful.

A minimum of shots used in between seeing the artist reminds us that she is the one that we're listening to.

Close ups enhance importance, something we are seriously considering and remembering when planning our own video.

Both screen grabs are taken within the same note, but mid-note they cut to a different setting and outfit. This is definitely something we should consider while planning our story board and filming.

Each setting, along with each outfit has a portion of the artist performing in it

This is something we have considered to have in our video, as it ties each story line along with each other.

Something we will definitely include in our video, but for a different reason, we will use it to increase the thrill and mystery.
